Welcome Back!

Hi everyone!  Welcome back to school!  I hope you had a fun and relaxing summer!  Thanks for stopping by the LRC blog.  Throughout the school year, I will post a lot of information about what is going on in the LRC.  I will also tell you about books I have read and interesting tidbits of news about the world of literature. 

The first big event we have going on is the SCHOLASTIC BOOK FAIR!!  The BOOK FAIR will be open from 7:30-2:30 September 4th through September 7th.  It will also be open on Tuesday evening during 6th grade Curriculum Night.

Battle of the Books Competition Results

2012 BOB Teams

On Wednesday, March 14th, the Woodland White and Woodland Green teams participated in the 2012 Lake County Battle of the Books Competition.  Both teams did very well with Woodland White finishing in 2nd place and Woodland Green finishing in 5th place.  Way to go teams!!

Book Fair

The Scholastic Book Fair will be at Woodland Middle School next week, March 12-16.  All students will visit the book fair with their teams.  Students can also visit during advisory or after school.  The book fair will be open during 6th grade open house on Tuesday evening. 

Battle of the Books

It is that time of year when the most serious readers get ready to go to battle!! By "battle" I mean the annual Lake County Battle of the Books which is being held on March 14, 2012 at Beach Park Middle School. 

Last year, our team came home with the first place trophy and we are definitely looking to REPEAT!!  If you are interested in being on the team, see Ms. Perrin in the LRC.

Hunger Games Fans Unite!!

If you are one of the many fans of the hugely popular Hunger Games trilogy, then you know there are only 10 MORE WEEKS until the highly anticipated movie premiere!!! But who's counting, right? 

To pass the time until the movie begins, you can pick up one of our new books that are similar to the Hunger Games novels.

She was Queen of the Nile until the accident...or was it murder?

 Join your fellow detectives at Woodland Middle School in solving the mystery The Pharaoh's Curse.  You must investigate the crime scene and carefully examine the evidence in order to solve the crime.  There will be prizes for teams who correctly solve the mystery.

When:  Friday, December 2nd 2:20-4:30pm
Where: The Woodland Middle School LRC

How to participate:  Register your detective team of 3-4 students and pick up your entrance ticket in the LRC.  Sign up is happening in the LRC from today until December 1st.
