Hunger Games Fans Unite!!

If you are one of the many fans of the hugely popular Hunger Games trilogy, then you know there are only 10 MORE WEEKS until the highly anticipated movie premiere!!! But who's counting, right?

She was Queen of the Nile until the accident...or was it murder?

 Join your fellow detectives at Woodland Middle School in solving the mystery The Pharaoh's Curse.  You must investigate the crime scene and carefully examine the evidence in order to solve the crime.  There will be prizes for teams who correctly solve the mystery.

When:  Friday, December 2nd 2:20-4:30pm
Where: The Woodland Middle School LRC

How to participate:  Register your detective team of 3-4 students and pick up your entrance ticket in the LRC.  Sign up is happening in the LRC from today until December 1st. 

6th Grade Book Club Begins

The 6th graders on the Jaguar 1, 2 and 3 teams were recently given the opportunity to join the lunch time book club.  Students will meet at lunch time every Tuesday and Thursday to read together the novel Peak by Roland Smith. 

The book club is organized by Mrs. Perrin who will read the novel aloud while students listen and eat their lunches. Once this novel is finished, the other half of the 6th grade will be offered the same opportunity. If you have any questions, please see Mrs. Perrin in the LRC.

Lunch Discussion about Bullying

Last week, the 6th graders were treated to a very exciting visit from a very TALL author.  Doug Wilhelm, all 6'10" of him, spent two days at Woodland Middle School.  He spoke with all the 6th graders during their language arts classes, presented at a parent forum about bullying and attended a lunch with 30 specially chosen students.  Mr. Wilhelm spent the majority of his visit discussing his book The Revealers and the theme of bullying.  We are very grateful for the time he spent here and look forward to reading more books by him.  If you are interested, the sequel to The Revealers will be out later in the year!!

Back to School

Welcome back to school everyone!! I hope you had a great summer and read a lot of good books and magazines. Please let me know what you read and if I should purchase a copy for our LRC collection.

Please remember to visit the Book Fair next week. It is open Tuesday through Friday during the day and during the 6th and 7th grade curriculum nights.

End of the Year!!!!

Can you believe that it is almost the end of the year? With the end of the year, comes the time to return all library materials to the LRC. Please return anything you have checked out to the LRC by Friday, May 20th!! If you have any questions, please stop by the LRC and talk to Mrs. Perrin.

Author Visit - Mr. James Deem

Yesterday, the 6th graders were treated to a presentation by award winning author Mr. James Deem. He spoke to all the students about how he became an author, the process of writing non-fiction vs. fiction, his research process and the ancient civilizations he has studied. He had many great stories and interesting pictures that included many dead people! COOL!

After the presentations, 26 6th graders were treated lunch with him. They asked a lot of great questions and had their books autographed.

We have copies of his books in the LRC...so come up and check them out!!
